More happy customers – wedding photography Scotland

I was delighted to receive this email last night from Louise and Gary

Hi Angus
Mr & Mrs Walsh escaped the lions and Great whites in South Africa to arrive back safely from Honeymoon today! Travelling the world is fun but there is no-where like home.
These photo's are absolutely fantastic! So pleased with them. I don't recall many of them being taken actually.
Thanks again for everything.
Thanks
Louise”

Kelly and Garry, Wedding Photography, Dunfermline Abbey and Keavil House Hotel

I was really looking forward to Garry and Kellys Wedding, I had met them both a couple of times and they were great fun, I had a feeling that they would be a great laugh on the day. Not only that, I also had a feeling that Kelly would look stunning, boy was I right!

The only let down on the day was the weather, Dunfermline Abbey has some great photographic opportunities, nice old sandstone buildings and the old knave has large south facing doors that let in lovely light – if there is any! By the time the service was over, the rain had arrived, it was pretty heavy, cold and very windy, a photographers nightmare.

Anyway, I started at Garry and Kellys house where Kelly was getting ready, she was very nervous but holding it together.

I shot off to the Abbey and met up with Garry who was just as nervous. I only had a few minutes as Kelly Arrived 10 minutes early, Historic Scotland who run the abbey run a very tight ship and they don't allow you to be late.

The service was brief and nice, I was only allowed on the balcony, again this is all very tightly controlled by Historic Scotland.  Thankfully the minister allowed me to place a small remote controlled camera in the pulpit, this allows me to be in 2 places at the same time.

After the service, we did a few formal shots on the steps of the Abbey – just as the rain arrived. That left me with a bit of an issue for where to do the shots of Garry and Kelly, I liked the old door on the south side but it was so cold. Kelly agreed to brave the wind and driving rain for a few minutes but even I could not keep her there for too long.
190909-203 I ended up using flash which I hate but it was just too dark for even my cameras at the highest ISO setting to be hand held.
190909-215

We headed over to Keavil House Hotel for the meal, as we drove along the rain passed over and the sky looked brighter so I was a little happier about that.

Believe it or not, this shot was taken in the ladies toilet, the poor old lady that came out of a cubicle to see me, Kelly, Garry, the video guy and a flash soft box must have wondered what was going on.

Thankfully the sun came out for a while and we had a very quick walk round the garden to get some more shots.

Thanks Garry and Kelly for being such great sports, you really were a pleasure to work with and I hope that Mexico is everything you want it to be.

Discovery Wedding Fayre

I’m just back from the Wedding Fayre at RRS Discovery, what a day, really busy and very successful. 3 couples booked me for their big day, 2 others have fixed appointments for me to meet them to discuss it and I had to sadly turn away 2 other couples who are getting married on days that I am already booked.

92 People entered the prize draw for a pre wedding shoot and the winner is Nichola Donaldson – well done Nicola, I’ll be in touch soon.

Louise and Gary – Kinnoull Church and Salutation Hotel, Perth. Wedding Photography Scotland

Louise and Gary got engaged in Butchart Gardens, Vancouver Island, Canada. A stunning place, we have been there a few times and love it too so I knew that we’d get on great. Considering the weather we have had recently they were very lucky to have such a great day. As usual I started off at Louise’s Mums house in Perth overlooking the Tay, we captured the getting ready process. I have a feeling that Louise would not be happy with me if these shots ended up here!!

Being so close to the river has it’s benefits, especially on a great day as last Saturday was.
120909-070

Louise has done some modelling in the past and it certainly shows, she went right into the poses I was just about to ask for – an easy day for me then!

120909-082

I caught up with Gary and his Best man Ben at the Church, I’ve been here a few times and the Minister is great, very accommodating and a really nice guy.
120909-124 120909-141

The service was relaxed, informal and at times very funny.
120909-232

I loved the light coming in through the Church windows.
120909-292 Because of the Butchart Gardens connection, Louise wanted to do some shots in Rodney Gardens, ok not quite the same but I have to say a beautiful location for photography, especially on a sunny day like this. In the past I have had to queue up behind other photographers on good days here. Today we were alone.

120909-300 Under the bridge for a few more shots. Here I even had to ask a passer by to hold my flash.
120909-307
Over by the lake for a last shot before we headed to the Salutation Hotel for the meal. I have never photographed a Wedding here before but I was very impressed.
120909-337 The room was decorated very well, and the cake was stunning – it was made by a relative, this is actually very common that relatives make cakes. I never imagined that there would be so many talented people out there that are able to do this.

120909-411 Some hilarious moments at the speeches – mainly at Garys expense. Then dinner!

Douglas and Helen – Wedding Photography in Morar, Scottish Highlands

2 Weeks back I was up in Morar, just south of Mallaig for the Wedding of Douglas and Helen, the weather was reasonable but could have been so much better, this location is just idyllic in the sunshine. It was dry but cloudy – but at least it was dry.

Helen and Douglas had rented a stunning holiday home and I started here (once I found it)!

Helen looked stunning in her very non-traditional dress.

070909-041
Douglas was waiting patiently at the Church, and what a location, looking over Loch Morar which is the deepest loch in Europe and apparently home to a monster – not sure about that one though!
The weather had cleared and the sun was out.

070909-077 The service was a short and intimate affair in a lovely little church

The family went back to the holiday home for cake and snacks before I took Douglas and Helen back to the beach for more photographs.

It was getting colder by now and we spent a fair bit of time on the beach hoping for a sunset but the clouds beat the sun and eventually we had to call it a day.

Douglas and Helen, you were a great couple to work with, I thoroughly enjoyed your company and getting to know your family. Just as an aside, Douglas’s Mother lives in Alexandria Virginia, this town is twinned with Dundee and I have been to ALexandria many times, we even almost found someone we both knew – small world.

James and Helen – Dundee Central Baptist Church and Piperdam

Sorry the blog has been largely ignored lately, it has been a really busy time for me which is great news! Anyway, 2 weeks ago (on a Thursday) I was in Dundee for James and Helens lovely Wedding. Boy did it rain, it was absolutely chucking it down at one point.

James is an Air Traffic Controller at Edinburgh Airport and Helen is a youth worker, they were both lovely people, Helen especially had a really dry humour and was great fun to be around. She took the bad weather in her stride and we got on with it.

I started at her friends house where she was getting ready.

Photographs were not allowed during the service so I sat quietly at the back, this was the first time I had been in this church, all very modern and slick, a bit like a professional concert. Rather than an organ there was a full band complete with drum kit.

The thing that really impressed me was the the food that was available afterwards.

200809-052 200809-055

We headed for Camperdown for a few shots, the weather looked like it might change !!200809-140 200809-090 200809-152 200809-142
Thankfull we did get 10 mins of sunshine here and we had the portico to use too. Then  it was off to Piperdam for some group shots which we had to do inside unfortunately then the speeches.
