Wedding Photography – Balbirnie House, Katy and Gordie part 3

It was time to get back inside from the cold and the cake was about to be cut.

Then it was downstairs to the function room for dinner, Balbirnie had done a great job of the room, it was looking great.

I was sitting beside Katys work colleagues so I was on my best behaviour and tried not to mention that speeding fine!
291209-501 The speeches were really funny and Katy spent most of the time in tears.

We went outside again to try and capture the great lighting that Balbirnie have on the building

Balbirnie had a new very fancy dancefloor installed a few weeks ago

After a few dances, it was time for me to leave for home, a great night and a lovely couple.

I have to say that Balbirnie is one of the best venues I have worked in, Meghan and her colleagues really know their stuff and the day ran like clockwork – I can’t recommend them highly enough.

Wedding Photography – Balbirnie House, Katy and Gordie part 2

After I had finished with Gordy and the boys I headed up to Katys room to get some shots of the dress and her Bridesmaids. It was actually quite calm, things were running to plan and everyone was happy.

It was a lovely dress, very elegant

Then it was time for the Service, it was conducted by Rev Bob who I know quite well, he is very laid back and amusing.
291209-263 This is the first time that Gordy caught site of Katy, I try to get a shot like this at every Wedding but often things get in the way.

Rev Bob cracking one of his jokes
291209-310 291209-338 Katy was happy to wander about in the snow, the grounds here are stunning and I’d love to do more summer Weddings here (hint hint)

Wedding Photography – Balbirnie House, Katy and Gordie part 1

Between Christmas and New Year I was in Balbirnie House near Glenrothes for the first time in years for the Wedding of Katy and Gordy. A lovely couple, they live in England where Katy is a Police Woman and Gordy is involved in the family business (although that is based in Dundee – long story), Gordy and I went to the same secondary School, although we were a few years apart!

Katy had asked me to go to the hairdresser in the morning to get some shots of her and her bridesmaids getting ready, this is quite new to me so it was a long day.

Quite a discussion about how the hair should look at the back

291209-110

Katy clearly delighted with the results

I shot back to the hotel to photograph the room settings, cake etc.
291209-131

291209-135
The cake was very unique, the little cage is apparently meant to represent a diving cage as Katy and Gordy are very keen divers, there was lots of discussion about it being a Jail Cell!

Gordy was at the bar, he said he hated being photographed but a little whisky and he was fine

Dont know what the guys had against me but thankfully none of them made contact

After that I was up to Katys room but more of that another day

Carberry Tower, East Lothian, Wedding Photography – Paul and Shona part 3

We carried on with shots of Paul and Shona, I feel this is an important part of the day, it’s one of only a few times that a couple will have the opportunity to be photographed by a professional photographer during their lifetime so I feel it’s worth investing the time in it. I like to have the couple for 30 minutes and we certainly managed that with Paul and Shone. Carberry is great for this type of photography as it has lots of little corridors and (if the weather is good) superb grounds. It reminds me a little of Castle Menzies in Aberfeldy.

Anyway, back to the photographs

After the photo session we it was time for dinner but first speeches.

311209-313
Shona was pointing out all the badges that she had got in the Brownies

311209-351
Grahams speech was very good, he made a bit of a joke about Shona being suite small but said that size didn;t matter, finishing by saying that Paul was going to try and explain that later that night!!

Carberry Tower, East Lothian, Wedding Photography – Paul and Shona part 2

After the cake and table setting photographs it was quickly back to Shonas room to catch a few shots of her with her Bridesmaids and Father.

311209-088 311209-093

311209-097 Shonas Father was rightly very proud of her and the Bridesmaids were stunning.

311209-099 Then I rushed over to the Chapel to await Shonas arrival, the snow was falling heavily and it was freezing cold, I did feel sorry for the Bridesmaids in their skimpy dresses

311209-104

A few last bits of advice from Dad

311209-107
Here she comes
311209-117 Paul pretending that he was not nervous

311209-134 I was able to take a few shots during the service but my access and space were limited. We finished off in the Chapel with a group shot of everyone then headed back to the Tower.
311209-165 This pair were a real laugh

311209-222 Then we organised some group shots that Paul and Shona had asked for then I took Paul and Shona on a little walk round the building and the grounds for some couple shots – my favourite part of the day. They will be online tomorrow – check back soon

Carberry Tower, East Lothian, Wedding Photography – Paul and Shona part 1

I had never met Paul and Shona until I arrived at Carberry Tower to photograph their big day, this happens quite a lot but is never ideal, the day seems to flow better if we have formed a relationship. That said, we all hit it off quickly and the day went really well.

I started with Paul and his best Man Graham, we headed outside into the snow

After that I left them in the bar and made my way to Shonas room where she was getting ready.
311209-041
311209-050
I knew that Shonas was going to look beautiful, she had the most amazing dress, extremely elegant.
I left them to it and went off in search of the cake and the room decorations.

The cake was supplied by Edinburgh Cakes, it was simple and elegant.

Thats all for this post, more to follow
