Booking a Wedding Photographer in Scotland

Emails like this one I received today are the most frustrating part of being a Wedding Photographer, the inability to split yourself in 2!

 

Hi Angus, Having visited your site and blog and having seen a large sample of the relaxed and natural photographs including excellent recommendations from colleagues and friends, my fiance and I are very much interested in your services for our wedding day. Unfortunately upon viewing your calendar you appear to be booked already - our wedding is XXXXX July 2012   at Atholl Palace in Pitlochry. I am gutted as yours seems to be exactly the style of photography we are looking for and as a Blairgowrie family it would have been perfect to have a local photographer! I am emailing simply to note our interest in case the booking you already have is not fully confirmed or there happens to be a cancellation. I appreciate this is a long shot but I would rather ask the question than miss out altogether! Kind regards



This happens about once a month and it is as frustrating for the photographer as it is for the couple, obviously I have suggested other Photographers that might be free. However, to all Brides, if you find that you have made up your mind over a photographer (me or any other) then just go ahead and make the booking, no matter how far in the future it is and avoid situations like this.

Scottish Wedding Photographer, Crieff Hydro, Perthshire, Rob and Michelle

After the couple shots we headed back to the Hydro for the formal receiving line which is held in a lovely south facing, glass fronted room with loads of natural light.

Firstly I photographed the room and table decorations

Dustin Hoffman was a guest at the Wedding


Then it was the speeches, not sure Michelle's Dad will thank me for this one !!!

Scottish Wedding Photographer, Crieff Hydro, Rob and Michelle

In true Kiwi style, Rob was a little late in coming down for his shots before the service so we did them afterwards

Crieff Hydro has some great locations both indoors and out for photography

This is one of my favourites from the day



We were running out of time by now but I though that the giant chess set would make a great shot so we managed to squeeze it in



Then it was over to the Garden for a coupe of floral shots

Wedding Photography Crieff Hydro Hotel, Michelle and Robert

The service was conducted by a family friend who also happens to be a Registrar – handy!



It’s great when the Celebrant is helpful by allowing you to stand at the front and also moves out of the way to allow you to get a shot of the Bride coming down the aisle. As everyone is standing up the only 2 places that you can see the Bride from is the front or the back so I was grateful for her allowing me to stand there briefly
This another of my favourite moments when the Brides Father leaves her at the bottom with her new husband

 

I say this a lot that at every Wedding there is a first, often it’s just a small thing that I have never seen before, this was actually quite a big thing, it was a Mauri Love song, performed by friends of Roberts
The formalities over, it was back up the aisle

Wedding Photography Perthshire – Crieff Hydro Hotel – Rob and Michelle

It was a beautiful sunny day last Saturday as I drove down to Crieff for the Wedding of Rob and  Michelle. I’d never met Rob and Michelle as they live in Auckland, New Zealand. Michelle comes from Perth and met Rob when thorough a mutual friend in New Zealand then moved there to be with him.

I introduced myself to Claire who was the duty manager for the day and she seemed to be on top of things, had a walk round with her and discussed times and the couples route round the venue. The I wandered around looking for locations for photography.

Once that was done and I had eaten something I went to introduce myself to Michelle.

Sport was very much the theme of the day, in fact Michelle was sitting in her room watching the St Johnston game


The dress and shoes had travelled 17000 kilometres round the world

The flowers had travelled from Perth!



It was time to head down for the service, Michelle looked stunning and very relaxed

Carnoustie Wedding Photography – Jill and Scott

A quick drive to the Carnoustie Golf Hotel for a few more shots

The room was looking stunning

Being very good Golfers, Jill and Scott had to go on the first tee

And then the 18th green


 

Jill and Scott, it was a fantastic day, I really enjoyed working with you and your families and thank goodness for the break in the weather.

And then Jill arrived with her father

I was very restricted in my movements here, I had my lens stuck through a vase of flowers to get these shots but the expressions on Jills face were worth it

 

I am not sure who it was that was slapping Scott on the face but it was well worth a shot





Back into the Church for a couple of shots out of the wind

After that it was onto The Golf Hotel in Carnoustie.
