Emma and Aaron, Wedding Photography RRS Discovery Dundee

Unusually for me I had a Wedding on a Thursday. I had last met Emma and Aaron last December when they booked me officially and we did a pre Wedding photo shoot for their personal Wedding web site which they won in November. We all got on well and I knew that the day would be a laugh. Emma had put her heart and soul into this day for over a year, organising the smallest of details, finding stuff on-line, buying things from Ebay. There is no secret that this Wedding had a budget and Emma was determined to stick to it, and stick to it she did. Thankfully her and Aaron agreed that Photography was not something to that should be skimped on – this makes my life harder actually as that puts photography (relatively) right at the top of the list.

Anyway, I started at the Inchture Hotel where Emma and her friends were getting ready. Emma had lots of nice jewellery that she was planning on wearing and my first job was to record all that, she was also to wear 2 Wedding rings, the 2nd one was her Grandmothers ring.







Aaron had bought the Links of London Jewellery for Emma and in return this is what she had bought him: A signed DUFC football, how cool is that ! I have been asked to photography many things at Weddings, some very odd and some not to be spoken about here but strangely this was my first football – I had a bit of a mental block on how to photograph it so I do hope Aaron and Emma are happy with the results.


Can’t remember this little dogs name but it had been on the hen night so it came to the Wedding too.

I headed down to RRS Discovery where Aaron was waiting patiently with Emmas Son James. Aaron was remarkably relaxed.

As usual Debbie and her team had done a great job and the Ship looked stunning.

Emma was looking stunning and a little tearful but she got it under control.

  I can;t remember what was said here but it was obviously very funny, now I think about it, it was probably the vows which were quite funny.

James was looking on with interest, he had to hand over the rings so he was making sure he knew what was happening.
Afterwards we headed down stairs so that we could get a shot with the Piper before he left.

Whilst I took this shot Shannon, Emmas daughter was sticking her fingers in her mouth and pretending to be sick, I’m sure she’ll be reminded of that every time she sees this shot.

The conservatory at the Inchture Hotel is lovely and the food is excellent here.

Emma made first speech, this is not unheard of but very unusual, it was very moving and personal, a few tears were shed . Then it was time for me to leave.

Emma, Aaron, James and Shannon, you were lovely to work with, thank you very much for inviting me to share your special day with you and I do hope that our paths cross again soon. Keep in touch.

Alana and Richard – Birkhill Castle, Wedding Photography Scotland

Last Saturday I was in the absolutely stunning Birkhill Castle, this beautiful castle is home to Lord and Lady Dundee, 6 months ago I didn’t even know this place existed and now I have 2 Weddings this year here. It just makes you wonder what other locations I have yet to discover.


I arrived early and things were getting organised, actually fireworks were being dug into the ground for a huge display later in the evening.

I found Alana in the hairdressing room and there was something odd going on with a duvet cover, holes were being cut in the bottom – more about that later.

I took the rings, shoes and jewellery for a little photo session outside in the grounds, always really worried doing this in case I lose something and very glad to hand it back over again.

Alanas dress was absolutely stunning and had been hand made by a friend as a present, such a lovely touch especially the little label in the inside.


Typically we were running a little behind at this point (most Weddings do) but I took the boys outside for a couple of shots, it was a lovely day and very sunny but that can actually be a problem for a Wedding Photographer so we went round the back to get some shade.


Back in Alanas room there were loads of people helping out and a few kids running about too, it was all very relaxed.

The minister was great, he did magic tricks and played the guitar – actually very well, how cool is that.
It was a very nice and relaxing service.


Richards sister was enjoying it but she was first to cry!


There was a hand tying ceremony too. Then the rings were passed round the room, everyone had to put their hand on the rings and offer some sort of good wish so most people said, health, happiness, luck, love – that sort of thing. Once the rings got back to the Minister, Richard said he was disappointed that no one had said “Wealth”, this caused a few laughs.


We did a few group shots then took Alana and Richard away for a few “couple” shots. This is where the duvet came in. Birkhill has a huge turret with beautiful views over the Tay to Perthshire but to get there you have to climb this tiny and pretty dirty staircase so to protect the dress, Alana put the duvet cover over the top, all very organised.

Eventually she was back in her sack for the trip back down the stairs.

We walked round the walled garden for a few more shots. It is beautiful and would be even more so in Summer but time was running out for us and dinner was to be eaten.

Rather than offer favours, Alana and Richard had chosen to make small gift donations to charity on behalf of their guests, for example, mine was a bar of soap to a village in Africa. A really nice gesture that is indicative of the type of people they are.
Dinner was at a very long table in the great hall. I was sitting next to some lovely people and purely by chance when we got chatting it transpired that they knew my family quite well – small world.

Richards speech was entirely off the cuff and very funny.

The best mans speech was very funny and he was actually quite kind to Richard, I feel he was let off far too lightly.
Then it was dancing, it turned out that I actually knew the musicians from my days in the Scouts, again a small world.
The dancing was followed by fireworks, what a setting.




Then it was time for me to leave. Alana and Richard, I really enjoyed the day, you were a lovely couple to work with and I hope that you are as happy with the results as I am. Have a great honeymoon and lets catch up next time you are in Dundee.
